Notice version 2026-08-21.v1
Children's Privacy Notice
Tiny Tutors is a math tutoring service designed for middle school students, including children who may be under 13. Parents and legal guardians create the account, create each child profile, and control that child's information. This notice describes what we actually collect, why, and how you can review, delete, or stop it.
Parents are in control
Children do not create their own Tiny Tutors accounts. A parent or guardian signs up, creates a child profile, and must give explicit consent for that specific child before the child can use tutoring. Creating an account is not consent by itself — we record a separate, affirmative consent for each child, with a timestamp and the version of this notice you were shown.
What we collect about a child
- Profile information you enter: the child's first name (or nickname), grade level, an avatar color, and optionally a profile photo you upload.
- Homework you or your child upload: photos, PDFs, or Word documents of math worksheets, or typed-in math problems.
- Tutoring activity: the messages exchanged with the Kapinga coach during a session, which problems were worked on, hints used, and whether a problem was solved.
- Voice interaction: when a child uses the voice tutor, their spoken audio is streamed live to our voice provider so the coach can hear and respond.
- Safety records: when the coach declines an off-topic or unsafe request, we record the category so a parent can review it.
We do not ask a child for an email address, phone number, home address, school name, or location. The coach is instructed not to request or repeat personal information, and the service blocks messages that appear to contain it.
Why we collect it
Only to provide the tutoring service: to read the homework, to adapt the coaching to the child's grade level, to speak with the child by voice, to show parents progress, and to keep sessions safe. We do not sell child information, we do not show advertising, and we do not run third-party analytics or advertising trackers on the app.
How long we keep it — profile vs. session
The child profile persists. Name, grade, avatar/profile photo, the parent-child link, and the consent record stay so you don't have to recreate the profile each day.
Session data is removed. When a tutoring session ends, Tiny Tutors deletes the uploaded homework file from storage, deletes the tutor/child conversation, removes the temporary AI context for that session, and redacts the stored problem text and any verbatim child wording captured on safety records. If a session is abandoned — browser closed, network dropped, device off — a scheduled server-side job performs the same cleanup after a short window. We keep only non-identifying counters (session length, subject, number solved) so the parent progress view continues to work.
Voice tutoring and our voice provider
Voice tutoring is powered by Retell AI. When a voice session starts, we send Retell: the child's first name (used so the coach can address the child), the grade level, the subject, the transcribed text of the uploaded homework, and an internal session identifier. The child's live audio is streamed to Retell during the call. We do not send your email address, billing information, or any account identifiers.
Pending vendor confirmation: we have not yet confirmed in writing Retell's recording, transcription, retention, subprocessor, and deletion practices, and Tiny Tutors does not currently have an automated way to request deletion of data held by Retell. We will update this notice once those terms are confirmed. Until then we make no claim about whether Retell retains audio or transcripts. If you would like your child's voice data escalated to that vendor for deletion, contact us at the address below and we will make the request manually.
Homework text is also processed by our AI model provider (Google Gemini, via the Lovable AI gateway) to read the worksheet and generate coaching responses. Homework files and avatars are stored in our managed cloud database and storage.
Your rights as a parent
- Review: you can see each child's profile, progress, and safety records from your parent dashboard.
- Withdraw consent: from the child's profile, choose "Withdraw consent". New tutoring sessions, voice sessions, and homework uploads for that child stop immediately. The profile itself is kept unless you delete it.
- Delete: choose "Delete child profile" to permanently remove the child's profile, photo/avatar, session history, and stored files. This is different from ending a session and cannot be undone.
- Refuse further collection: withdrawing consent stops further collection for that child without deleting the account.
